EAT WELL FERGUSON

The goal of Eat Well! Ferguson is to help people make healthy choices when dining out in Ferguson.
Live Well Ferguson is partnering with local restaurants to increase your options for healthy dining choices.

Restaurants are becoming a bigger part of the American diet.  With obesity on the rise, it is more important than ever to make informed choices when you eat out.  Restaurants can be a partner in helping you make healthy food selections.

Participating Eat Well! Ferguson restaurants care about your good health and are committed to providing healthy options.  They are taking steps both in terms of the ingredients they use and how they prepare their foods to offer you healthy food choices on their menus.

In our program, in order for an entree to qualify as an "Eat Well!" meal choice, it must meet three of the following requirements:

  1. a serving of fruit or vegetable
  2. a whole grain
  3. a lean protein source
  4. a healthy fat source such as olive oil, or other unsaturated plant oil, nuts, seeds, avocado, or fish (such as salmon) rich in omega-3 fatty acids

Equipped with the right tips, anyone can navigate a restaurant menu with confidence - whether you already live a healthy lifestyle or you are just looking to begin.

Use these tips to guide your menu choices and don't be afraid to ask if you can customize:

  • Ask for sauces and dressings on the side.
  • Request extra vegetables.
  • Opt for steamed vegetables over sauteed or fried choices.
  • Choose grilled or broiled meat and fish over fried options.
  • Look for a meal combination with fiber and protein to help fill you up.  Fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains are great foods for increasing your intake.

If your restaurant would like to participate, contact Stan Kreitler,
Director of Parks and Recreation, City of Ferguson: (314) 524-5072.
